On Friday June 13, 2014 Pets Alive held its 5th Annual Fur Ball at the beautiful Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff, NY. We were thrilled to celebrate with so many of our devoted supporters as well as many new like minded animal lovers at our biggest fundraiser of the year. Thank you to all who joined us and to those who supported the evening but could not be there!
Even with a massive thunderstorm looming and high humidity we gratefully welcomed 340 guests who were excited to be there and happily bid on over 100 fantastic auction items available. A huge thank you to Tara Mikolay who led the charge along with Tammi Lauder, Kristen Mulcahy, Lauren Kraft Rothberg, Lianne Rothberg and Robyn Stern! Guests joined us in commending our Starfish Award Recipients Lynn and Tim Hutchinson and Bekim Laiqi and our Kameron Jacobson Award Recipients Chris Curran and Amy Deserto. Learn more about their outstanding work by watching our Honoree Award Video!
Due to this overwhelming show of support the 2014 Furball was the most successful in Pets Alive history raising nearly $180,000 in MUCH NEEDED funds, including a $50,000 donation from Rob and Marisol Thomas' Sidewalk Angels Foundation.
"We've watched Pets Alive grow so much since our first visit over a decade ago. It has weathered many storms, which have not only helped to strengthen their resolve, but have made everyone involved with the organization come together in a wonderful way to ensure that Pets Alive's mission and passion never falter..." boasted Marisol Thomas. "Animal advocacy is not an easy fight and some days you are left feeling very defeated. Being a part of Pets Alive, and the work that they do, and their ability to get knocked down and get right back up better and stronger, inspires us to continue our work to help fight for the rights and fair treatment of those with no voice."
The Fur Ball not only honors each and every animal that Pets Alive has rescued thus far but also brings awareness to all of the animals that we have yet to save. It is those lives that matter most right now. The ones who truly need us, to be there with open arms and give them the life they all so very much deserve.
Thank you for your continued support which ensures we can continue to do more, save more lives and work toward a greater, stronger no-kill community!

Pets Alive, one of the largest no-kill animal sanctuaries in the US and the oldest on the East Coast, is comprised of three facilities located in Middletown and Elmsford, New York and Utuado, Puerto Rico. The organization's mission is to improve the lives of companion animals everywhere by any means possible, including rescue, adoption, advocacy, collaboration, intervention and education.
Pets Alive was started in the 1980s by Sara Whalen who had been known for rescuing societies "throw aways." She showed compassion for every animal regardless of the level of abuse they had suffered and provide the care that each needed - whether it was a bath or intensive medical attention. In 2007, Sara passed away from brain cancer. With the help of Best Friends Animal Society and a group of dedicated volunteers Pets Alive was able to continue Sara's mission and thrive.
As a leader in the no-kill movement, shelters all over the country reach out to Pets Alive for help in making the no kill transition. The organization teaches proven methods for increasing adoptions, implementing successful education programs for the public and developing successful low cost spay/neuter programs. Further, Pets Alive will take in animals from shelters that face overcrowding so they do not have to resort to killing.
