Our Mission, Vision, and Values

Pets Alive is a no-kill animal shelter located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, about 90 minutes from New York City. We are one of the oldest no-kill organizations in the United States. Established in 1988, Pets Alive’s mission has always been to help animals in need.

Our mission is to build a humane community supporting the human-animal bond by being a resource through rescue, adoption, intervention, education, and outreach.

We envision a community where all animals are loved, respected, and treated humanely.

Pets Alive values and embraces above all, kindness, compassion, integrity, respect, inclusiveness, and collaboration in all aspects of our mission and our vision for a humane community.

We have a number of community-based programs that help community members who are struggling care for their pets with a goal to keep animals in loving homes. In 2022…

  • Our community donated dog and cat food to our Pet Chow Pantry, a program that helps keep families together when times get tough. 8,409 pounds of dog and cat food were distributed in 2022 to families struggling to feed their companion animals.
  • Access to affordable routine veterinarian care is vital in keeping families together and supporting the human-animal bond. In 2022, 830 companion animals received wellness exams and rabies vaccines at a reduced cost. Collaborating with Catskill Veterinary Services, PLLC, and Besties Animal Rescue, we brought essential veterinarian services to our community.
  • 145 community cats were spayed/neutered and vaccinated, creating safer communities for feline and human neighbors. Friendly cats and kittens were brought into our adoption program, and our truly feral kitty friends were returned to their colonies through our TNVR (Trap Neuter Vaccinate Return) Program. These community cats live and thrive in our neighborhoods and are loved by their caregivers.
