So many people have been emailing us to ask about Mindy that we thought we would send out an update.
Yesterday Mindy came home to Pets Alive!
We are all beyond excited. I can’t even tell you. Mindy is happy and looking very healthy. Matt and I tossed a ball around for her in the volunteer lounge, loved her and hugged her to death. She is just so much fun, full of so much love and exuberance. I really adore her. She is tremendously precious.
Mindy is still not out of the woods. She has so far beaten Canine Influenza, and she has beaten Equi Streptococcus, but she is still weak with a possible auto-immune issue. This could possibly be the result of all the trauma and physical stress she has been through and it is possible she will bounce back completely, but it is also possible we could still lose her as her blood cell count drops and her own body works against her.
Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers and stop in to see her.
She is an absolute JOY to be around and to play with.
This has been a VERY expensive two weeks – all started with trying to save Mindy. We all feel though that if she makes it, it will ALL be worth it. All the expense, all the work, all the quarantine, the closing of our shelter and the stress on everyone involved. It all hinges on little Mindy. If she survives….we’ll never look back with regret! Go Mindy Girl. We’re ALL pulling for you sweetheart.
Mindy is still looking for a home. She seems to have no aggression at all, seems to be ok with cats and so far although we have not tested her with other dogs, she does not seem highly interested in them in a negative way either. Won’t you consider opening your home to this little one, that has been through so much?
If you missed the original story of Mindy and all that has happened, you can read her story here.
We are in great need of Kong type toys. If anyone can donate some kong toys for all our sick dogs that would be very helpful. There’s a toy from Aspen Pet called “dogzilla”. They’re rubber like the kong (but dumbbell shaped) and the rubber is infused with some kind of protein and scented/flavored to attract dogs. We have a couple and the dogs LOVE them. Even our voracious chewers seem to be able to make these toys last a long time. The ends of the dumbbells also have holes for stuffing. We hope to get a lot of these so that we can give the dogs something to do when they’re not getting walked as much. Please donate a few if you are able. If you are a volunteer – PLEASE continue to come down even in the winter. We need you. The dogs need you. We know it’s cold, but they really need and love to get out!
Please consider helping us continue our mission
of finding homes for animals in need!
Just a heads up …
Amazon.com is having a special on the Dogzilla Dumbbells with free shipping 🙂
The devotion of these sweet creatures to their humans is so awe inspiring and heart wrenching. We are all pulling for this beautiful girl!
I just read your story about Mindy and found myself in tears. My husband and I adopted a very abused beagle from our local Humane Soceity, it will be 5 years on March 1st since we brought him to live with us in his new “forever home”, and all I can say is that he has been the best most loving, devoted dog I have ever seen! To someone who is not sure how a shelter dog would be, let me tell you this, you will never find a dog more loyal to you than a dog that you have rescued! Our Bailey was one week away from being euthanized! Our prayers are with Mindy and all of you who work tirelessly to save these beautiful animals!
