Hurricane Sally dogs arrive at Pets Alive

Hurricane season has been relentless. First it was a race against time to get 15 shelter dogs impacted by Hurricane Laura to the safety of Pets Alive. Now it’s Hurricane Sally. Thanks to the work of many, six more dogs arrived at Pets Alive yesterday from Baldwin County Animal Shelter in Summerdale, Alabama.

A week ago, Hurricane Sally made landfall, bringing catastrophic flooding to coastal areas in Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. This storm was particularly hard on shelters that were full of animals prior to the storm.

As the storm surge subsided, the Baldwin County Animal Shelter got to work in tough conditions. They had no power, knocked out by the storm, which also meant no running water and no air circulation for the animals and rescue workers.

Overcoming these obstacles, within 48 hours, teams from rescue groups and shelters from 6 different states worked together to prepare its 70+ animals for transports to shelters points north. This now allows them to make room for animals who have been displaced by the destruction of Hurricane Sally, with a goal to reunite them with their families.

Thanks to our friends at Southern Paws Inc who provided transportation, six of these dogs made the long trek to Pets Alive and arrived yesterday.

Here’s a few of the dogs, available for adoption in about a week.
