Our very senior horse Glen (his age has been estimated to be in the 30’s) is in need of eye surgery. This picture was taken in April and as you can he see, he was fine, but over the past several months he has had increasing trouble with his eye and finally the vet has advised that the eye must be removed. He had long ago gone blind in that one eye, but up until now the vet did not think it was painful or causing him trouble. Now though, it is, and so it must come out.
Today I brought him to the vet for the surgery. They will do the surgery today and we will be able topick him up in a few days. The cost for this surgery is $1000. That is a lot to spend on an older horse, but the options were to euthanize him, leave him in pain, or remove the eye.
In looking at those three options, we knew the only choice was to have the surgery done. Glen is a very happy horse. Old. Thin. A “difficult keeper” as they say, since he has only a few teeth and can’t eat hay, but he is a joy to us and to his goat companions and we had to do what was best for him. We are asking for your help with this surgery as it is far more than we had budgeted for this month. How is Glen doing plz.?
