Daisy was one of the first dogs adopted when best Friends first came here over a year ago. She was adopted by Mary and her family. Mary was a volunteer, then became staff (our receptionist + plus) and is now our adoption coordinator….as we recently said goodbye to the most wonderful Patti Prefetti who has moved away. Recently Daisy lost her battle and Mary and family let her go. Mary wrote this and I wanted to share it with all of you:

——————————————-

Dear Daisy,
It wasn’t love at first sight for me, but it was for Kristen.
Something in you touched her.
You shared the same beautiful blue eyes.
It took many days of kind coaxing before you would let Kristen leash you and take you on the trail.
Once you trusted her you never looked back.
How happy you and Champ were when Kristen and Auntie Linda would approach your run leads in hand.
Champ would bark and you would dance and off you’d go happily, finally learning to trust that something good would happen. You walked so slowly, softly lifting your long legs to untangle the leash along the way, never pulling, just enjoying each moment and sniff.
It wasn’t long before Kristen and I were taking you on day trips to the park and then to our house to meet our dog Penny. You two hit it off right away and a dip in our pool together sealed the deal. Soon after you came for an overnight and never left. We knew you wouldn’t.
daisy1.jpg I grew to love you so much. You were so frightened, yet so brave at the same time. Through all your health problems you never lost your spirit, never let me know how you must have been hurting. You pulled through a surgery must dogs don’t with flying colors only to finally succumb to old age and old bones. You couldn’t win that painful battle but you won my now aching heart. I only wish you had more time with us Daisy. One year was not enough walks, not enough nights by the warm fire, not enough pats on your head. It was all we had sweet girl. I hope you are with Champ now running and playing, your body young and strong, as strong as your spirit.
We MISS you.
Mary, Doug, Kristen, Lindsay, Penny, Lucy, Buddy, Lilly

Goodbye Daisy.

We’ll ALL miss you…but we’re so very glad that you got the opportunity to have a loving home and a wonderful family to share your own love with. We are so glad that you died in their arms, and not on a cold cement floor.

Fly Daisy….say hello to all the ones that are there to greet you. I know you and Champ will be running through the meadows together…..(tell Zack and Baron I said hello)….we’re so glad you were loved by such a special family.
