hudson02_9871.jpgJust wanted to write a brief blurb here to let you all know that Hudson has passed over to the Rainbow Bridge.
Newer volunteers won’t really know Hudson, but anyone that was here when Best Friends first came, or before will remember him. Hudson was a curmudgeonly old fellow. He could be snappy and aggressive and very grouchy at times…yet loving and affectionate and friendly when it suited him. He was elderly when we hit the ground over a year ago, but something in him just touched Carmine and Lucia and they eventually decided to take him home.
It wasn’t all roses and peaches. He bit them, or tried to, a number of times. Most people would have brought him back and said “too much”. Not Carmine and Lucia. They just changed the way they dealt with him and everyone lived amicably.
Sunday night, with Lucia and Carmine at his side, Hudson passed from this earth to a different life. One where I am sure he sits and waits at the gates for the people that loved him most.
This was a very special dog. He found two very special people. Hudson had a very hard life and spent most of it at the shelter. Yet, he still managed to wheedle his way into the hearts and arms of two of the most special people I know. Good for you Hudson. You did it. You managed to find love in the last year of your life and you managed to find a way to give love back, even though it must have been hard for you to trust. Kudos to you Hudson for manging to dig out some of the best people at the shelter, and find a way to get into their car, their house…indeed their hearts. I’m so glad that you died in their arms and not in the night in a cold run.
Rest in peace.
I imagine you racing around with no arthritis and no pain.
Say hi to Baron and Jerry for us.
You’ll be forever missed down here.
