Sanctuary animal updates:
Since our last update on February 5th, we have found homes for Scarlet, Barclay, Lexi, Dusty, Tina, Sherry, Dawn, Poncho, Buttercup, Valentino, Barney (but he came back), and Roxi. Three of our other dogs – Poppi, Royce and Tugger were also adopted from ARF this week! Good luck guys! Behave in your new homes! Sadly this is the first update since mid December where we had no cats adopted. Where are you cat people? Your cats are waiting here for you. Come and get them!

I am adoptable! Come and get me!Badgee Update: Now ready for adoption
Latest Update from Lace on Badgee: (Read full story here)

We finally have a conclusion to the medical aspect of Badgee’s story: HE’S CURED!
After speaking with the Orthopedic surgeon who has been seeing Badgee, we have established that Badgee’s muscular defect has been corrected and he is no longer a ’special needs’ dog. He can walk on any surfaces, go up and down stairs as he pleases, and do anything a normal puppy does. There are no more restrictions on his activity!!! The only continuing rule (which is good for all pups) is that his food must be monitored for his weight so that he does not become overweight. The best news of all is that because he did not undergo any invasive surgeries, he is not at any increased risk for bone or joint problems down the road. Dr. P said that his gradual progress means his joints and bones adjusted properly as his muscles grew and are now in perfect condition.
Badgee (who will hopefully get a new, happier name) can now be adopted as a perfectly normal puppy! I am so proud of him and happy that he will get to lead a life free from this leg problem! Let’s get that boy a home!
Volunteers Amaze us – AGAIN
So the cry went out. The weather was getting warmer and we needed more outdoor runs. John S. volunteered to head up the project to build more outdoor runs out of existing fencing panels we had here. Over a dozen volunteers stepped up to the plate and volunteered to join John on February 17th – rain or shine, no matter the weather, or the temperature. Uh-Oh. Did they know what they signed up for? The day dawned with a chill in the air. 29 degrees at 9 am. Ouch. No one will show up I thought. Boy was I wrong. EVERYONE showed up with boots, hammers, gloves, CHOCOLATE (I love our volunteers), and cookies. They got to work at 10am and didn’t stop until the freezing rain and the dark descending (and the fact that we ran out of fencing) finally had them call it a day. The day was quite a success though. They managed to put up quite a lot of runs, and not just small ones either. We now have really big runs suitable for multiple dogs. It wasn’t easy. Most of the panels were frozen into the ground, and the ice had to be chipped away. We’re getting more fencing soon and hopefully John will be willing to lead another parade in the spring to put up the new runs. It should be warmer then too (we hope!).

I wanted to also mention that some of the volunteers that came for this project traveled quite a ways. Catherine traveled here from Baltimore! We put her up for the night in our guest room in the brick house, but it was quite a trip for her. Thank you! What amazing support and dedication from these volunteers to do this in the bitter cold, travel over an hour for many of them, and then tough it out all day even after the sleet started coming down. Thank you all so much for this. I won’t ever look at the dogs romping outside in those runs without thinking of all of you.
One of the nicest stories this year though is of Nancy and Dick W. Nancy has been here before but she doesn’t drive and so getting here from her home in Ocean City, NJ is quite a feat. She loves coming though and never fails to stop in and say hello. While here she works her tail off too, and her love for the animals is very obvious. This year her husband asked her what she wanted for Valentines day. She told him to attend the “fence raising” on February 17th at Pets Alive. He looked at her and said “You’re kidding, right?”, but he had the sinking feeling that she wasn’t. She got her wish and they drove up with their three dogs the night before, stayed in town and were here bright and early this morning. They worked all day and we got to meet their wonderful dogs. That’s one of the great things about this place, we always love to see people’s pets and you’re always more than welcome to come here, volunteer, and put your own pets in a run for the day! PETS R WELCOME after all!. Thanks so much to Dick for loving Nancy enough to give her the gift she wanted for Valentine’s Day and thanks Nancy for wanting to spend your time here with us. We appreciate you all so much!
